The Tzemach Tzedek retorted: “It’s already three generations that my grandfather (the Alter Rebbe), my shver (the Mitteler Rebbe) and I are working towards the end that Chassidim should be “oisgehorvete Chassidim” – Chassidim that result from toil and effort, rather than ‘b’derech memeila’diga Chassidim’” [“automatic Chassidim”]!
